Kidney function

Your eGFR from a creatinine result. A lower eGFR went with higher death rates and more heart disease.

About 2 minA recent blood test with creatinine; a urine albumin result if you have one

What you'll need

  1. Find creatinine on a recent blood test; it's on most routine panels. Or use Fill in from a lab report to read it for you.
  2. Enter your age and sex: the equation uses both.
  3. If you've had a urine test for albumin, add the albumin-to-creatinine ratio.

Upload a PDF or a photo of your report, or paste its text. It's read on this device and never uploaded, unless you choose the AI reader for results it misses.

What the research found

eGFR estimates how much blood your kidneys clean each minute. This uses the 2021 CKD-EPI formula, which most US labs now report and which doesn't use race. Across studies of over 1.2 million adults, death rates were flat for an eGFR between 75 and 105 and rose below that. Compared with 95, they were 18% higher at 60, 57% higher at 45 and about 3 times as high at 15. More albumin (a protein) in the urine added to the risk at every eGFR. In 1.1 million adults in a California health plan, an eGFR of 30 to 44 went with 1.8 times the death rate and twice the rate of heart attacks, strokes and other heart and blood vessel problems.
