Functional age check

Nine short checks of things that change with age: reflexes, memory, hearing, eyesight, leg strength, balance, how old you look, smell and taste. Each one shows how you compare with people your age, and which ones read older.

About you

Each check compares you with people your age.

  1. Reaction time slows with age and tracked with survival in large studies.

    1. Sit comfortably. On a computer, rest a finger on the space bar; on a phone, hold it steady.
    2. When the box turns green, tap it or press space as fast as you can.
    3. Wait for the change: tapping early doesn't count. Five tries make one result.

What it can tell you

Each check is compared with published data from people of the same age, and every comparison links to its study on the check's own page. Together they show where your body is ahead of your age and where it lags. No single combined score like this has been tested against how long people live, so treat the overall reading as a summary rather than a measurement.
