Former Professor, UCLA and USC
Metabolic health, medical imaging and lifestyle medicine
Robert Lufkin is a radiologist who writes and teaches about metabolic health and longevity. He studied computer science at Brown University, earned his medical degree at the University of Virginia School of Medicine and completed his radiology residency at UCLA. He is board certified in diagnostic radiology and has served as a professor at both the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine and the USC Keck School of Medicine.
His research has focused on MRI, head and neck imaging and MRI-guided procedures, and he has written more than 200 peer-reviewed papers. He developed an MR-compatible biopsy needle known as the Lufkin Needle and has served as president of the Society of Magnetic Resonance Imaging and the American Society of Head and Neck Radiology.
His most recent book, Lies I Taught in Medical School (BenBella Books, 2024), was a New York Times and USA Today bestseller. It describes how he reversed four chronic conditions in himself through lifestyle changes. He hosts the weekly podcast Health Longevity Secrets.
